PVT Course for Reservoir Engineers

This 3-day course is designed for reservoir engineers who want to learn how to perform reservoir fluid sample validation, plan an experimental PVT study, and develop equation of state models that represent the fluid phase behavior under reservoir and process conditions, as well as of reservoir fluids undergoing gas injection to enhance oil recovery. The course will alternate between lectures and practical examples illustrating how to solve PVT tasks, a reservoir engineer may face.

Day 1

  • Sampling and sample validation
    • Bottom hole and separator samples
    • Samples taken at different depths
  • Compositional analyses
    • Gas chromatography
    • Combining gas and liquid compositions
    • How to QC a fluid composition
  • Cubic equations of state
    • Foundation laid by van der Waals
    • Volume corrected SRK and PR equations
    • From P-V-T relation to phase equilibria
  • What determines a reservoir fluid composition?
    • Assessing reservoir fluid compositions at an early stage of exploration
